January, 25th 2018

Arma Bahar (Pattimura University), Hayani (Mataram University), Siti Istiqomah (Hamka University) and Afifah Listi Fuadatushaliha (Yogyakarta State University). we were the Sea Teacher-Students who were chosen to observe and teach in Princess Chulabhorn Science High School. On the very early morning, we prepared and went out from the dorm to wait for the van that would take us to the school. We were not going alone, we were accompanied by Tan, a batch 4 Sea Teacher, and Dr. Wilaichitra as the supervisor from Phranakhon Rajabhat University. We left the university around 7.30 am and we arrived at PCSHS at around 8.45 am, the journey took a times because of the traffic jam in the morning knowing that that day was still weekdays. When we arrived at the school, we directly welcomed warmly by the school supervisor teacher Preauw and Teacher May. The two of them were the alumnae of Phranakhon Rajabhat University as well. After we took several pictures of the school, the teachers showed us the way to the dorm and to our room. It was a nice dorm named “Bau Ubon” or Brown Lotus. The dorm was for Matrium 6 girls students.

We got room number 306 at the third floor and it was very nice, clean and tidy room. The facilities were good and the environment was calm and relaxing. Unfortunately, we could not enjoy the dorm in the morning because we had to go to school.
The school was not far from our dorm, we only had to take a little walking. Walking together with the other three Sea Teacher-Students and the teachers also the supervisor of PNRU.

Arrived, we then entered the Foreign Language Department. Well, not only the dorm’s facilities, the school facilities were good as well. The school provided all things students needed, therefore students focus were only in studying and doing their assignment or even their project. We got our own table in the Foreign Language Department. The teacher were very friendly and liked to have conversation with us. They even invited us to have breakfast together at the office. It was a real warm environment and surroundings.

After Dr. Wilaichitra and Tan left the school, we were entering the class to have an observation. I observed junior class (Matrium 2) located in the 4th floor of the 3rd building. At the moment, I was accompanied by teacher May and the class was being taught by the Head of Foreign Language Department. Observing the class from the back, I conclude that teacher did interaction with students and explained the exercise one by one. She also gave the example before asked students to do the exercise, she gave feedback to students and warned the students who did not have work book. The teacher used Thai language in explaining the material, thus students were easy to comprehend the material. The observation was not last that long, it only took about 20 minutes. I learned that, the treatment of a teachers in Indonesia and in Thai were not that different. But, the differences probably came from the students. Sometimes they tend to write something on their book and they talked. However, they could answer teacher’s question accurately and even explain their answer to the teacher. They also do all the exercises in advance.

On 4.20 pm, all the periods were over. We came back to the dorm and had some rest. Actually, the students were celebrating a festival at the school. They were doing parade from the around the school and gathered in the assemble field. Unfortunately, I could not join all the happiness at the festival because of the headache I got. It was sad because the parade lasted until late enough at night and my other Sea Teachers friends were happily joined the festival as well. They bought me food from the festival though, so I did not feel fully sad. Lastly, we had dinner together in our room then took a rest.
