Seminar and PNRU Tour

January 22nd, 2018

Three days in Thailand has given me many new experiences. At the very morning, 8.30 exactly, we were joining the Seminar on Language Teaching in the faculty of Teachers Training and Education of PNRU (Phranakhon Rajabhat University). The students of Teachers training and Education Faculty of PNRU were doing 2 section of presentation in which the first section was in the morning and the second section was after lunch. They were dressed appropriately and very friendly in guiding us to register and to have a seat. Topic presented were Teaching Reading and Language System. Presentation went smooth and no tension between SEA teachers and students of PNRU. Moreover, the topics were presented clearly and enjoyable. First, Teaching Reading was divided into eight sub topics, they were Reasons for reading, different kind of reading, reading levels, reading skills, reading principles, reading sequences, more reading suggestions and finally encouraging students to read extensively. From their explanation I could learn that teaching reading for students was not as easy as we thought. We have to discover the creative ways in developing the material to teach so that students who did not have any passion in reading will gladly join the class activities. Choosing the appropriate text to be read by students in certain level were important also. Knowing that not all text could be understood by students in certain level. That was teacher’s job to encouraging students wants and provide students with their needs. Thus, at the end of the class they could achieve the best expectation.

Second, Language System. Over all the sub topics which being presented, I could take several important points. In teaching language especially foreign language, the teacher have to consider a fun and enjoyable way to teach. Why? because students sometimes thought that they did not need to learn foreign language or probably they were just not interested at all. For that reason, providing interesting pictures and videos for students were a good way to teach. Especially in teaching pronunciation, the teacher could show videos of native speaker speaks English and compare it with local people speaking English. It would show them how interesting learning language could be. It probably build their awareness of culture also. Knowing that culture affect the way people speak and somehow caused bad things happened.

After joining the Seminar, we were doing Campus Tour around the PNRU. We went to fitness center of PNRU which is a big building consist of 3 floor. The second floor was for exercising and the third floor was for badminton.

Next, we went to first aid building. It was located near the canteen. The room was very calm, filled with many kinds of medicine and several beds for students take a rest if they sick.

We walked out the first aid building and went to the Information Technology Department and Service Center. The function of the building was to provide students with computer and internet facilities whenever they wanted to find materials or anything related with their studies. It was very neat and to use the facilities there, we only have to show our student ID to the officer in the front desk. Then, we got the number card and free to use the facilities.

PNRU also have very huge library. It consisted of around seven floors. The first floor was the receptionist while the second until the seventh floor was filled with books.

English books were provided in fourth floor. We could access the floor by lift or stairs. The seventh floor was the restroom and movie room. When students needed place to rest and entertain their self from reading, they could watch movies and take a rest in this floor.

We were very sad because we could not visit the Teacher Museum because it was closed, however we continued our tour to the last place which was The Traditional Thai House. It was located near the dormitory. This traditional house often used to held traditional Thai wedding ceremony. Views around the house was very pretty and fresh.

All in all, my third day in Thai was a very long day. I was doing many activities with my SEA Teachers friends and also my Buddy from PNRU. It was very wonderful experience, it taught me many lessons and it worth my exhaustion.
